ANTELOPE VALLEY MODEL RAILROAD CLUB 14 April 2000 Lancaster, California Minutes of the April 2000 regular business meeting. CALL TO ORDER Meeting was called to order by Mr. Crawford at 2026 hours in the Club car on the AV Fairgrounds. ROLL CALL Members present: R. Boone, T. Crawford, D. Frozina, M. Lacey, J. Madriaga, N. Schultz, D. Tate, H. Veihdeffer, J. Wetzel, and R. Wetzel. DISPOSITION OF THE MINUTES Mr. Lacey moved and Mr. Schultz seconded that the reading of the minutes from the last regular meeting be waived and that they be approved as written. The motion passed unanimously. COMMUNICATIONS Mr. R. Wetzel said that we received a bank statement and an electric bill. OFFICER REPORTS President: Mr. Crawford emphasized that we need to get the layout ready for the 2000 Fair. Vice President: Mr. Veihdeffer implored all members to mark their cars with their color code so that we know who owns what. Secretary: Mr. Frozina distributed picture membership cards. Treasurer: Mr. R. Wetzel reported that we are solvent. Also that our insurance check should be ready. Publicist: Absent. Superintendent: Absent. COMMITTEE REPORTS Control/Electrical: Mr. Crawford reported that we received the coiled cords, but one end needs to be uncrossed before we can use them. Mr. Crawford mentioned that the current issue of Model Railroader had Chubb's article on detection for DCC. The boards and parts are $9.00/each. Mr. Frozina reported that the new crossover going out of The Loop (helix) was in place on the CTC panel. Fair Liaison: No report. Grounds: No report. Housekeeping: Mr. Lacey asked the members to please pick up after themselves. You are not at home! Inventory: Mr. Frozina asked for (and even received!) suggestions on the data needed to be collected for the asset inventory. Such as quantity, year purchased, description, serial number, model number, and estimated cost. Relocation: Mr. Schultz will meet with Rep. Pete Knight sometime in the middle of May. Rolling Stock: Mr. Veihdeffer suggested that Mr. Lacey be our Technical Inspector this year. Scenery/Structures: Mr. Veihdeffer reported that the lumber yard siding and the paper mill spur are progressing. Track: Mr. Veihdeffer reported that the new crossover going out of The Loop (helix), was in place on the layout. That a caboose track was in on the Valley Yard. That the time-saver area needs a rotary switch, similar to the one for the program track to select from DC or DCC as needed. SPECIAL ORDERS Mr. Madriaga has completed his 4-month probationary period. After Mr. Madriaga left the car, Mr. Lacey moved and Mr. Tate seconded that Mr. Madriaga be elected to full (regular) membership. Discussion followed. The motion passed unanimously. Congratulations John, now where's the pizza? UNFINISHED BUSINESS Brochure Holders: Mr. Schultz will obtain four 8 1/2" x 11" sign holders. Decoder Software: Mr. Crawford reported that Mr. Beasley has purchased the EasyRamp II software. Computer: Mr. Schultz will soon bring in the computer his friend donated. Mr. Schultz will also donate a monitor of his for said computer. NEW BUSINESS Tools: Mr. Veihdeffer suggested we get a roll-around tool cart for the Club's tools to replace the cart that was stolen. He will look into what's available and at what cost. Mr. Frozina suggested that any smaller toolboxes we need to purchase should be of the "step stool" variety. This will allow our vertically-challenged members access to the Mesa Division. Stereo Receiver: Mr. Frozina suggested that we don't replace the PA system. There was general agreement on this. Mr. Frozina also suggested the we purchase a stereo receiver for the car, for inside music and/or sound effects. Mr. Veihdeffer will visit his usual haunts to see what's available and at what cost. ANNOUNCEMENTS Mr. Veihdeffer reported that he and Mr. Crawford visited Gary Segal's layout recently, which had no electrical problems. Mr. Veihdeffer reported that he and Mr. Tate visited DLA and purchased the additional track approved previously. Mr. Veihdeffer reported that on 07 May 2000, the annual swap meet and flea market will be held at the Fairgrounds. Be sure to attend. Mr. Frozina polled the membership on having another railfan trip to the Tehachapi Loop in May. Not many were interested. NEXT MEETING The next regular business meeting will be on Friday, 05 May 2000 at 2000 hours in the Club car. ADJOURNMENT There being no further business or discussion, Mr. Lacey moved and Mr. Tate seconded that we adjourn the meeting. The motion passed unanimously. The meeting adjourned at 2128 hours.
