ANTELOPE VALLEY MODEL RAILROAD CLUB 03 November 2000 Lancaster, California Minutes of the November 2000 regular business meeting. CALL TO ORDER Meeting was called to order by Mr. Crawford at 2003 hours in the Club car on the AV Fairgrounds. ROLL CALL Members present: J. Beasley, R. Boone, T. Crawford, D. Frozina, M. Lacey, D. Tate, H. Veihdeffer, N. Schultz, and R. Ybarra. Guest present: Emily. DISPOSITION OF THE MINUTES Mr. Schultz moved and Mr. Beasley seconded that the reading of the minutes from the last regular meeting be waived and that they be approved as written. The motion passed unanimously. COMMUNICATIONS None. OFFICER REPORTS President: Mr. Crawford reported that he is now a BSA Railroading Merit Badge counselor. Vice President: Mr. Veihdeffer had no report. Secretary: Mr. Frozina had no report. Treasurer: Mr. R. Wetzel was absent. Publicist: Mr. Morris was absent. Superintendent: Mr. Beasley had no report. COMMITTEE REPORTS Control/Electrical: Mr. Veihdeffer and Mr. Frozina reported that the turnouts have been numbered and labeled; that the block names have been voted on and that in the case of a tie, a coin was tossed. Fair Liaison/Relocation: Mr. Schultz reported that he finally had the long-awaited meeting with McElroy, Jacobs, and someone else (who Norm couldn't recall, due to his advanced age). They do want us at the new Fairgrounds, but not in the Club Car. They seem interested in having the N, G and HO clubs combine. Mr. Schultz requested a 5,000 square-foot building and an area outside for "live steam". They want a written proposal. The Fair Relocation Committee is scheduled to meet on 08 November 2000 at 1930 hours at Mr. Schultz's residence to draft our written proposal. Committee members are Mr. Schultz, Mr. Crawfdord, Mr. Frozina, Mr. Beasley, Mr. Lacey, Mr. Veihdeffer, and Mr. Ybarra. Grounds: Mr. Veihdeffer had no report. Housekeeping: Mr. Lacey had no report. Inventory: Mr. Frozina had no report. Rolling Stock: Mr. Veihdeffer requested that the members stop using the cleaning cars until they themselves are cleaned. Mr. Schultz mentioned that Tony's Train Xchange had a "scrubber" car in the $40-50 price range. Mr. Veihdeffer stated that Aztec has a cleaning car in the same price range. Scenery/Structures: Mr. Veihdeffer had no report. Track: Mr. Veihdeffer reported that he replaced the damaged turnout on the lower reversing section of the Desert Division (inner helix loop). Mr. Veihdeffer reported that it is impossible for a Westbound train, using right-hand running, to transition from the Valley Division to the Mountain Division (outer helix loop). He needs to add additional turnouts and crossings to both the lower and upper reversing sections. Mr. Veihdeffer reported that a crossover, or double crossover, needs to be added near the Eastern end of Alpha Yard (large yard on the Mesa Division) for proper operation. SPECIAL ORDERS Mr. Crawford opened nominations for the 2001 officers. Mr. Frozina moved and Mr. Veihdeffer seconded that $50 be allocated for this purchase. The motion passed unanimously. Stereo Receiver: Mr. Veihdeffer reported that no receivers were to be found at his usual haunts, although "boom boxes" abound. He will continue looking. Tortoise Motors: Mr. Crawford again reported that progress is being made on their installation. RF Pulsing: Mr. Beasley reported that Mr. Frozina obtained the necessary parts. Mr. Tate will install said parts. Intelligent Circuit Breakers: Mr. Veihdeffer said that he will check with DLA to see if they have them, otherwise he will order them from Tony's Train Xchange. Plexiglas: Mr. Tate has affixed the "Do Not Touch" labels to the Plexiglas. NEW BUSINESS Holiday Party: Mr. Veihdeffer reported that this year's holiday party will be on 8 December 2000 at 7 PM at the Palmdale Hometown Buffet. Spouses, family, and guests are welcomed. The N scale and G scale clubs are also invited. Mr. Frozina was directed to produce a flyer for the said party. ANNOUNCEMENTS Open Houses: Mr. Veihdeffer reported that the model railroad clubs of Glendale, Pasadena, and San Gabriel, are holding open houses this month. Contact Mr. Veihdeffer for more details. NEXT MEETING The next regular business meeting will be on Friday, 01 December 2000 at 2000 hours in the Club car.
