ANTELOPE VALLEY MODEL RAILROAD CLUB 13 April 2001 Lancaster, California Minutes of the April 2001 regular business meeting. CALL TO ORDER Meeting was called to order by Mr. Crawford at 2000 hours in the Club car on the AV Fairgrounds. ROLL CALL Members present: J. Beasley, T. Crawford, D. Frozina, M. Lacey, H. Morris, N. Schultz, D. Tate, H. Veihdeffer, A. Way, R. Wetzel and R. Ybarra. Guest present: Geri Williams. DISPOSITION OF THE MINUTES Mr. Veihdeffer moved and Mr. Lacey seconded that the reading of the minutes from the last regular meeting be waived and that they be approved as corrected. The motion passed unanimously. COMMUNICATIONS Bulletins from NMRA; utility bill from Fair; anonymous donation of $100 for Mr. Tate's equity fee (to which Mr. Tate said "Thank you, whomever you are"). OFFICER REPORTS President: Mr. Crawford reported that the Fair proposal is progressing. Vice President: Mr. Veihdeffer reported that Ed Jones, a former member and now a member of the Pomona MRC, mentioned that his Club has hired a lawyer to get his club tax exempt status. Reports will follow as more information becomes available. Secretary: Mr. Frozina reported that the membership cards and 2nd quarter roster were distributed. Treasurer: Mr. R. Wetzel reported that we are solvent. Publicist: Mr. Beasley had no report. Superintendent: Mr. Schultz reported that the rumors of his death have been greatly exaggerated! COMMITTEE REPORTS Electrical: Mr. Tate had no report. Fair Liaison: Mr. Schultz reported that he will present the joint proposal for the model railroad exhibits on the new fairgrounds at the Fairboard's June 2001 meeting. Mr. Frozina reported at length on the status of the joint proposal with the AV N'Scalers and the Lancaster & Northwestern Railroad clubs. Grounds: Mr. Crawford and Mr. Veihdeffer reported that we will get a concrete approach to our West stairway. Housekeeping: Mr. Lacey reminded everyone to crush their cans after drinking their soft drinks. Inventory: Mr. Frozina reported that he and Mr. Veihdeffer inventoried 60 of the Club's freight cars, and that we could use some more gondola cars. Donations anyone? Operating: Mr. Veihdeffer demonstrated his "tacky" car idea to assist members in making up their trains in the yards. The consensus was that we didn't need to use this method. Rolling Stock: Mr. Lacey reported that he tech'ed some of the Frederickson cars; and will go through the other donated cars to determine which can be salvaged, and which go to a swap meet. Scenery/Structures: Mr. Veihdeffer reported that he ordered the 5 sets of stencils of clouds, mountains, hills, city and details that Mr. Frozina found while looking through an old copy of Model Railroader. Track: Mr. R. Wetzel had no report. SPECIAL ORDERS New Regular Member: Mr. Rob Ybarra was formally inducted as a regular member. Honorary Membership Presentation: Mr. Al Way was finally presented with his honorary membership plaque. Congratulations Al! UNFINISHED BUSINESS Intelligent Circuit Breakers: Mr. Veihdeffer stated that we really need them. Mr. Schultz moved and Mr. Beasley seconded that we purchase 6 breakers. The motion passed unanimously. Mr. Veihdeffer will order. Rerailers: Mr. Tate reported that he purchased 3 rerailers, and that they are in house. NEW BUSINESS Box Car Donation: Mr. Way donated two Accurail 50' box cars to the club. Thanks Al! Crossing Bell Donation: Mr. Veihdeffer reported that a real crossing bell was donated to the club. FREDs: Mr. Veihdeffer proposed that we get some FREDs for some cars so that the members who run modern equipment don't have to use a caboose. The consensus was that this idea had merit. Signal Project: The idea of having two-color signals was brought up again. Much discussion resulted. We have many "kits" from ages ago, but the TTL relays were stolen in the robbery. Mr. Frozina is to look for a suitable replacement relay. ANNOUNCEMENTS Bitter Creek & Western RR Trip: Mr. Way will make arrangements for a group of members to visit, work and play on his "home" 1 1/2" scale club on a Saturday and Sunday. Several members expressed interest in going. Mr. Way will get back to us with suitable dates -- usually the third weekend of a month. NEXT MEETING The next regular business meeting will be on Friday, 04 May 2001 at 2000 hours in the Club car. ADJOURNMENT There being no further business or discussion, Mr. Schultz moved and Mr. Morris seconded that we adjourn the meeting. The motion passed unanimously. The meeting adjourned at 2115 hours.
