ANTELOPE VALLEY MODEL RAILROAD CLUB 11 October 2002 Lancaster, California Minutes of the October 2002 regular business meeting. CALL TO ORDER Meeting was called to order by Mr. Crawford at 2011 hours in the Club car on the AV Fairgrounds. ROLL CALL Members present: J. Cenkner, J.E. Cenkner, T. Crawford, D. Frozina, J. Madriaga, H. Morris, and H. Veihdeffer, Guests present: D. Filion, T. Glasgow, N. Hayes B. Haynes, and R. Ybarra. DISPOSITION OF THE MINUTES Mr. Veihdeffer moved and Mr. Madriaga seconded that the reading of the minutes from the last regular meeting be waived and that they be approved as written. The motion passed unanimously. COMMUNICATIONS Mr. Frozina reported that we received 3 pieces of mail: 1 from San Diego Travel Group, 1 from the AV Fair, and 1 from the AV Bank. An e-mail was also received from Granicy Square about the car. OFFICER REPORTS President: Mr. Crawford reported that we didn't do as well in attendance or donations as last year's Fair. Vice President: Mr. Beasley was absent. Secretary: Mr. Frozina reported that the web site has been updated. Treasurer: Mr. Schultz was absent. Publicist: Mr. Beasley was absent. Superintendent: Mr. Veihdeffer reported that the next formal run night will be 25 October at 8 pm. You must be ready by 8 pm or you won't run. COMMITTEE REPORTS Electrical: Mr. Tate was absent. Fair Liaison: Mr. Schultz was absent. Mr. Veihdeffer reported on the conversation he had with Mr. Jack Seefus at the Flea Market. The Fair Board wants trains at next year's Fair. An air-conditioned tent with a carpeted floor will be provided for the N and G clubs to set up their modules. Mr. Veihdeffer also asked about the Jaqua Arena being moved to the new Fairgrounds. It's a 80' x 140' steel building, complete with heaters. Mr. Seefus seemed interested in this idea and would check with others about it. A false front, resembling a train station, could be erected to make it more attractive. We also discussed starting to charge for admission and giving the Fair their 'cut'. Grounds: Mr. Veihdeffer had no report. Housekeeping: Mr. Lacey was absent. Inventory: Mr. Frozina had no report. Operations: Mr. Veihdeffer had no report. Rolling Stock: Mr. Beasley was absent. Scenery/Structures: Mr. Tate was absent. Mr. Veihdeffer, however, thanked both Tammy Glasgow and John Veihdeffer for their excellent work on the mountain artwork. Track: Mr. Tate was absent. SPECIAL ORDERS Mr. Crawford welcomed Mr. Daniel Filion as a probationary member. Mr. Crawford reminded us that next month, officer nominations will be taken. UNFINISHED BUSINESS Private Cars: Mr. Beasley was absent. Only 4 cars left at club. Palmdale Hobbies has the rest -- possibly 12 cars. Toy Trains: Mr. Veihdeffer reported that both the Hogwarts Express and Thomas the Tank Engine operated at the Fair. Passenger Station: Mr. Veihdeffer reported that this construction project is on hold. Club Future: Mr. Morris reported that there was no progress to report with the City. NEW BUSINESS Running: Mr. Veihdeffer suggested, and it was agreeded to, that we 'play' with what we have and not start any new projects. ANNOUNCEMENTS GATS: Mr. Veihdeffer mentioned that GATS will be at Pomona on 9 and 10 November. LALS Halloween Run: Mr. Frozina mentioned that the Los Angeles Live Steamers will have its second annual Halloween Public Night Run on 27 October from 6 to 9 pm. All are invited. NEXT MEETING The next regular business meeting will be on Friday, 1 November 2002 at 2000 hours in the Club car. ADJOURNMENT Mr. Morris moved and Mr. Veihdeffer seconded to adjourn the meeting.
